GodsMindSee also: God's Face Photos of my show in April, 2012, Chicago at the Southside Community Art Center. ![]() My art show God's Mind opened April 1, 2012, 3:00 pm, at the Southside Community Art Center, 3831 S.Michigan Ave., Chicago, Illinois, USA. It closes Sunday, April 29. ![]() God's Mind is thinker/artist Andrius Kulikauskas's transformation of one room into the sum of all knowledge. God starts and ends with the question, "Am I necessary? ... to them all?" It is the story of the good kid and the bad kid, of God inside and God outside, of how they and we are one or not. We must cross the river, the idea that "God does not have to be good!", whether by hopping from rock to rock in the shallows, or holding hands in a human chain, or "hitting bottom" and getting thrown across the rapids. We end up with a mind to learn, grow, live forever, here and now! Andrius engages our minds and provokes our hearts by engulfing us with black, white, blue, red and yellow fabrics; big, bright, bold paint strokes; dramatic scenes of himself and those he loves; and the many structures that frame our lives. God moves us to reach out beyond ourselves and do all the good we may do. ![]() God's Mind is at the historic Southside Community Art Center, 3831 S.Michigan Ave. I'm there on Wednesdays 12-5, Fridays 12-5 and Saturdays 9-5. My show closes April 29, 2012. Help me show it elsewhere after that and keep expanding it! I want to find places in Englewood and throughout the South Side where I can engage people with my art and find participants for my Learning Club. In general, I plan to spend Springs and Summers based in Englewood, and Falls and Winters in the Lithuanian countryside. Video of my scale model, in Lithuanian. Video of the opening where I talk about the "finger of God", co-creating with God ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Black God: The primordial God who is prior to all concepts, including time, space, love, reason... but who takes up the challenge, Would I exist even if I didn't exist? Am I truly necessary? And so removes himself in every possible way, creating light and us. How can he reach each and every one of us? Portrayed by Dee Guyton along with the days of Creation, the divisions of Everything, choir members of St.Benedict the African-East. All things Black are directly Godly. ![]() The River: The river we must cross, the idea that God doesn't have to be good, or simply, the fact that life doesn't have to be fair. On the other side is Eternal Life. Aš nebūtinai geras - Dievas nebūtinai geras - "mane" galim įvairiai suprasti. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Blue Other: The Baby who lives in the gap there can be between God and Red I where they have yet to meet. Engages God and crosses the river by hopping from rock to rock, the 12 questions. ![]() ![]() Red I: The humblest vessel in which God puts himself. We see all things, the House of Knowledge, the Wall of Saints, the 12 Questions. Raudonasis As mato teisuoliu pasauli, gerojo vaiko pasauli. But Red I looks backwards, towards God rather than towards the vastness of Eternal Life, until which God unfolds through us. In the bad kid's world, is guided by Yellow, the higher self. Has to be hurled across the river miraculously. Trokšta viską žinoti ir tą žinojimą gražiai taikyti. Jo akimis, melynasis Kitas pereina is tikejimo i rupejima, tad valingai, samoningai paklusta. Kitas ryztas gyventi placiau, gyventi ryztingiau, nuklydeliu pasaulyje. ![]() Yellow You: In whom God and Red I meet. Portrayed by David Ellison-Bey of the Moorish Cultural Workshop as Jesus, the Higher Self. Connected to God beyond the River through the red fez. Yellow You looks in the right direction, but lives in a fragment of reality, surrounded by the river, ever tighter, from Needs to Doubts to Expectations to Values. Geltonasis Tu mato nuklydeliu pasauli, blogo vaiko pasauli. Jo akimis, raudonasis As pereina is rupejimo i tikejima, tad nevalinga paklusta, pasiduoda. Gali tik paskui naujai ta isgyventi samoningai, teisuoliu pasaulyje, kuri mato Raudonasis As. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Skeleton Brother: Arises where God has removed himself. Goes in the wrong direction, and so will find God, if not by obeying, then by believing, caring or simply going along. |
